  • Silver glitter
  • Gold ribbon or metallic rope
  • Hot glue gun

2

Hold a pine cone and, using the paintbrush, dab the white paint onto its top and its edges. Paint one side only to start. Be liberal with the paint so the glitter has something to stick to.homemade pinecone ornaments

3

Sprinkle glitter onto the paint. Set the pine cone down on its unpainted side to dry. Repeat with the remaining pine cones.homemade pinecone ornaments

4

Once the first sides of the pine cones are dry, repeat the process on the other sides. Let them dry.

5

Cut the ribbon or metallic rope into 2-feet sections. Tie each section into a large bow.ribbon

6

Glue the knot of the bow to the top of the pine cone with the hot glue gun. Let dry.homemade pinecone ornaments

This is a simple craft, so feel free to get the kids involved. Do the hot glue part yourself, but let the kids take part in the painting and glittering!

Hello ...

Hello ... We had a great 4 day weekend, for the most part. Wed's night, we found the Cici's Pizza and ate there. I don't really recommend this one though. When I mentioned that the salad looked a bit sad, all they did was add more stuff to the bowl. They didn't drain off the water in the bottom of the bowl which is what was making it look a bit "off". Jerry ate a bowl of Mac and Cheese and said it was ok. not great, just ok. We both had 3 slices of Pizza. I got the ham and pineapple.. one slice of the pepperoni and I got one that had olives and mushrooms on it. Jerry ate the meat only ones. We ended up at the mall for a little bit. We went to Sears and Jerry found the Kindle Fire and we picked up two of them. They are our Christmas Gifts to each other this year.
Thursday, We had breakfast at IHOP. I got the Eggs, bacon and Pancake special.. I asked of they had Boysenberry syrup and YES they did.. She brought me two of them when all I need is one.. Oh my was it good.
After Breakfast, we drove around a while, We wanted to explore some of the roads near us. We ended up in Chatham VA. They have a food lion there. it's a bit further than driving to Danville though so, unless the way to Danville is blocked we will continue our food shopping in Danville.
We ended up in South Boston twice.. but that's good, because now Jerry has at least two ways to get to work if there is something blocking the road he usually takes. On the second time, we went back to Danville, hoping to find the seafood house we saw our first Sunday we were in town.
We then headed back to the camper to let the dogs out and potty. We spent about 2 hours at the camper, I talked to Beth on the phone while we were home. We left around 4 PM for dinner at Golden Corral. We just beat the crowd in. I had Salad first, then some turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing. I put a bit of gravy over both the potatoes and gravy. I also had a small spoon full of sweet potatoes. I never did find the cranberry sauce. I did find the dried cranberries in the salad area and had them on my salad. They had a turkey to carve but they also had a pan of bits and pieces. I got my turkey from that pan and it was great. I didn't even walk over to the desserts area. I knew I really didn't need any as I was full.
Friday. Jerry needed to cash his check. I did a bit of shopping. picked up my insulin. and wandered around the store for a bit. I found a wreath for the door for around $2. Nothing fancy on it at all, just the green pine tips. Perfect for what I wanted. I picked up the cola's we usually drink,, Remain soup for Jerry's breakfast, Jerry found a Blu Ray on sale, so we picked up one. He picked up a movie for us to watch, as well. I found the CD's bin and picked up 4 CD's. two of which are John Denver. Each one has a song I wanted of his, but they both were not on the same CD. A Burl Ives CD and Bing Crosby... I know where I'll be looking for more Christmas music because I found at least 4 or 5 more I would have picked up but didn't want to spend all my money in one place.
We then went to Home Depot and I found the perfect ribbon for my wreath. I saw some pine cones that were painted and, since we live in a wooded area gave me the idea of just painting my own to put on my wreath. I'll be working on that this week. I have some bells in my Christmas stash and I may put some of those on the wreath as well.
Jerry took me to Hobby Lobby. I restrained myself and only picked up a few things. Some large beads to make paperclip angels with, and a small pack of dark blue rhinestones. I needed only one. while at Wal-,mart I found a locket where you put the birthstones inside and I needed two dark blue ones for September since I was putting in every one's stones. Mine, Jerry, David, Heather, Bailey, Corbin, Beth and Heather. I used some E-6000 to glue it shut. I was in tears while I was trying to put the pieces in it. I dropped one and it fell to the floor. I just knew it was lost.. It took Jerry 15 minutes to find it. That is why I glued it shut. I put it together Friday evening while we were watching TV.
We did the laundry, picked up some Propane for the heater, took that back to the camper, then we went back and did our food shopping for the week. No room in the van to be able to do all that in one trip. Besides, the dogs needed walking again any way.
We ate dinner at home. I picked up two pizza's at the store. and Jerry wanted them. I had picked up a Pepperoni and a cheese pizza. Jerry thought I was going to "doctor" up the cheese pizza. No, I didn't want to do that this time. maybe next time. I just wanted to see if we could bake them in the roasting oven. We can, if we cut them in half. then both half's will fit inside. if we do that. Jerry did the cooking and didn't think about putting half of each in.. He did the cheese pizza first, then the other one.
I made up 18 Paperclip angels while we were watching the TV, as well. I want to give them out this year, to people. I gave one to the lady who was our server at Golden Corral. I left four in Geocaches, The only reason I didn't leave in all 5 we found is one is a min and doesn't have room for one.
Saturday. We had breakfast at Hardies. Apparently it's the local gathering place for the older crowd. Two people walked close to us, before deciding we were not who they thought we were.. (Ha ha)
We went back to the camper after breakfast. I fed the cats some dry cat food. We
We got to meet the neighbors' dog. He's a Husky. He's thin. He came right up to Jerry the first time he got away from her. I was just about to take the dogs out when I saw she had a dog with her. I saw him get away from her, and went outside and he came right up to me. He's a very friendly dog. I was surprised how thin he felt, under his coat. She tied him outside then left.
We went Geocaching. We didn't find a parking area close to the first on the list, so we by-passed it. We did find then next 5 though. I left paperclip angels in 4 of those we found.
Sunday. We had a water problem of sorts. I always rinse my hands before checking my blood sugar. I turned on the hot water and waited for it to warm up.. and I waited and waited.. it was cold. Jerry's "OH Great" was not good.. But then, any time something goes off he's not happy.
We ate breakfast at Golden Corral. waiting for the day to warm up. After we ate breakfast, we went back to Home Depot so Jerry could find out if they have the heating elements for the hot water tank. They have two so we will have to go back to the camper and see which one we need. I found a Christmas Cactus in a small pot and I picked up one. When we got back to the camper, we had hot water again. No idea why we didn't have any hot water at either sink, although it was the coldest night of the season so far.
When we got back, we also discovered that the gal next door left her dog out all night long. He howls.. he's cold. for a Husky he doesn't have a very thick coat. I went over and discovered he's got his line wrapped around a couple of trees and can't reach his water or food. I untangled him and he drank all the water I took over. the water in his water dish was frozen. He ate what food he had in his dish, as well. Of course he got tangled up again not long after I left him.. We kept waiting for her to come and take care of him. We never saw her all day long. Jerry tried to call the campground owners but no one was answering. We found out later that they buried his father in the afternoon.
Jerry and I both took an afternoon nap. Jerry decided we would eat dinner out, He tried calling the owners again and got a voice mail box and left a message. While we were at Arby's they called him back, and Jerry told them the dog has no shelter, gets tangled in the trees, and howls when it hears us outside and we haven't seen his owner all day long, We haven't seen her since yesterday afternoon, as a matter of fact. It was after dark but he came over and saw for himself that the dog was tangled in the trees again. Jerry went over and told him I had untangled it once and made sure he had water and food in him before I walked back to our camper. If we didn't already have 3 dogs, I would ask her for him. He has two blue eyes. Even the cats are not afraid of him. He's interested in them but didn't try to chase them while he was un-tangled. He said that this isn't the first time she's tied him out then left he alone for more than a day.

HOW TO MAKE GLITTER PLAYDOUGH

I know in some parts of the country you are all bundling up and keeping the kiddos inside…and..well…here in South Texas we're on month seven of being stuck inside with the a/c buzzing. I'm ready for some cool weather to help me believe it's Fall, but until then…what on Earth do I do to keep my two year old busy when she can't play outside?! We make stuff, of course!

Pinterest has me brainstorming all sorts of creative ideas & last week I can across this post & had to give Glitter Playdough a try. I've experimented with playdough before, but it never came out quite right. But this stuff–this is a hit. & it is currently keeping my girly occupied for about an hour a day which means this mama is getting a LOT done! Especially around dinnertime. ;) So…here's the best recipe for playdough I've come across yet, complete with sparkles! OOH la la!

What you need:

  • 1 C Flour
  • 1 C Water
  • 1/4 C Salt
  • 1 TBSP Vegetable Oil
  • 2 tsp Cream of Tartar
  • Food Coloring (or if you want it to smell yummy, kool-aid)
  • Glitter (the bigger flakes, the better)
  • pot/pan & spatula
  • & an eager little helper :)

Add everything to the pot. Doesn't matter what order.
Stir, stir, stir. until pretty smooth.
You can either make one big batch of the same color, or separate it out before you add the food coloring. I doubled my batch & separated it out into six bowls.

Add food coloring or kool-aid & stir well.

The first time I made this I used regular food coloring & while the color was great, the stuff smelled like…playdough? Not the best smell in the world. I bought kool-aid (for the first time ever!) and while it certainly did add a very yummy scent to the final product, it did make my little one cough when it went POOF into a cloud as it hit the mixture in the bowl. So just be warned. ;)

After the food coloring, add glitter. Add a decent amount–some will definitely stick around on little hands, but that's half the fun, right?!
Your mixture should be pretty runny before you add to your pot.
Heat the pot on MEDIUM & DO NOT STOP STIRRING once you pour in the mixture. This step went extremely fast for me–well under a minute, so stir & don't let it stick to the bottom! This is a mommy job.
The mixture will get clumpy & start to change colors. This is normal. It will eventually all turn a slightly darker shade of the original mixture. I had the best luck flattening mine into a pancake-ish shape & flipping it over. When you think it's done, remove from heat. I just scooped mine onto the counter.
After mine cooled a tad, I kneaded it a little to be sure it was done. If it is a little too gooey, just put it back in the pot & cook a little longer.
It's so pretty…& smelled so good…I couldn't help but play with it too!
I kept mine in the same containers I used to store my homemade baby food, and my little girl had the most fun playing with both the dough AND the containers. So don't be afraid to let the babes play with it all!
More colors=more fun!
Hours & hours, I tell ya. Took no more than a half hour to make. So easy. So cheap. SO FUN! :)
Happy Playdough making!

mincemeat

1-1/4 pounds lean beef stew meat
2-3/4 pounds Granny Smith apples, cored and chopped
1/3 pound beef suet, coarsely ground
3/4 pounds dark raisins
1/2 pound dark brown sugar
1/2 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 pound currants
1/2 cup apple juice
3/4 teaspoons ground cloves
3/4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
3/4 teaspoons ground allspice
3/4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup bourbon or rum, divided

Pastry dough for two double crust pies (see recipe in the related recipes
links)
Place stew meat in 2-quart pot; add water to cover. Bring to boil, cover,
reduce heat and simmer for 1 hour or until tender. Drain and put through a
meat grinder or into a food processor until a coarse grind.
Place the ground meat and the remaining ingredients, using only 1/4 cup of
the liquor, in a 4-quart pot. Stir and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook
gently for 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and allow to cool
(Can be made several days ahead and refrigerated, or frozen for several
months.)
Preheat oven to 375° F. Roll out one-quarter of the pastry dough and place
it in a 9-inch pie pan. Place one-half of meat mixture into pie shell. Roll
out another quarter of the dough and place on top, crimping it with the
bottom crust to seal. Cut a hole in the center of the top crust to allow
steam to escape while baking. Repeat with the second pie, or freeze the meat
for future use. Bake for 1 hour or until brown and bubbly. Place pie on a
cooling rack. Using a funnel, pour in the remaining 1/4 cup bourbon or rum.
Tilt pie back and forth to incorporate. Serve warm.
Notes: If, like me, you do not care for raisins, use all currants which are
smaller and have a milder flavor. Leftover pie can be tented with foil and
reheated in the oven. It can also be microwaved, but the crust will soften.

Creating Your Own Playdough Kit

By: Brandie Valenzuela

It is hard to find a child who doesn't love to play with doughs and clays. And as a mom of three, I know that playdough can become a mom's best or worst friend -- it all depends on how you handle it.

In our home, we created a playdough kit. This kit contained all of the essential items needed for creative play with this fun substance, and when it was time to play, the kit came out and when playtime was over, away it went until next time. We had very specific rules for the playdough kit and I can say with all honesty that never has my carpet or tables been ruined by their doughy creations.

Follow these directions and you too can have a fun activity ready to go at all time for your little ones:

You will need the following:

1) A large plastic tub or storage container with a lid.
2) A fresh supply of playdough or clay -- can be homemade or store bought.
3) Inexpensive or old cookie cutters
4) Cutting utensils such as plastic butter knives, pizza cutters, etc.
5) Plastic coated placemats to protect their work surface
6) Optional: garlic press, forks, melon baller, rolling pin, or other items.

I enjoyed making homemade playdough with my children for their kit. Not only does this give you a fun and education activity with your children, it is inexpensive. Here is one good recipe for
making your own playdough:

1 cup Flour
1 cup Water
1/2 cup Salt
2 tablespoon Cream of tartar
1 tablespoon Oil

Cook until ingredients start to clump together. Turn out onto a plate or piece of wax paper, and knead in food coloring if you wish.

After making the dough, we would store it in large zipper style plastic bags, that would then be placed inside the large storage container. If sealed properly, the bags will keep the dough fresh and pliable for 1-2 weeks, possibly even a little bit longer. When the dough did started to dry out, it was easy to whip up another batch or two.

In the storage container, we also placed all of our other goodies. While I did give you suggestions above as to what to put in your kit, it is really up to you. You may have some great ideas that are perfect for creating with. The standard items in our kit were always dull butter knives, pizza cutters, rolling pin, and cookie cutters. We also made sure that there was always a a plastic coated placemat for each child could work on.

One of the most important things to me when it came to putting together my children's playdough kit, was that they could truly create -- and that no one was telling them how something "should" look, unless they really wanted to know. I found that allowing them plenty of free time to design and explore with their dough, encouraged them to create those things that only their minds could dream of.

Another important issue -- which helped me to keep my sanity -- was clearly defined rules. In our home, the kit was in a place that was low enough so that the children could initiate their own activities with it, but they also knew that misuse of the items would cause me to put it away. We had rules such as:

  • No playdough off of the placemats
  • If you drop dough, you must pick it up right away
  • Only 5 minutes per tool if someone else would like to use it
  • Everyone cleans up their own space

Of course, you will want to create your own rules and guidelines that will fit the needs of your home. You will find that because the playdough kit is so easily portable and it all contained within the storage box, it was easy to remove the kit when play is out of hand and put it away for a specified amount of time.

Hello ... From a Gray but warming up Virginia

Hello ... From a Gray but warming up Virginia.  We may not even need jackets this weekend while we are driving around.   There are hardly any leaves left on the trees. The wind this past week brought a lot of them down. All brown, Tan and crispy.. and Barney loves it.. He loves to run around in the noisy leaves even when he knows he's outside for a different reason.  The cats have been in, then out, then in again, now they are out again.

Tonight I'm fixing Spegettie with a meat sauce. I'll brown the hamburger in a bit and add it to the sauce in the crock pot to simmer the rest of the day.

We have Dish back, Yay!!  I've already set it up to record lots of stuff. I found lots of Christmas Movies and I had to reset to get Y&R and other shows that I expect to miss in the evenings.  Jerry likes going to bed extra early and I am finding I really do need to go to bed earlier as well. 4:30 comes too early for me.. it takes me about 20 minutes to cook breakfast while Jerry is getting dressed and he wants to be out of the door before 5 because it's almost an hours drive on winding back roads. The GPS shows that both the fastest route and the shortest route are the same.

I am wearing... Dark Gray Sweat Pants and my Spirit Horse top.
I am reading... Emails and recipes.  I really need to make a Pumpkin Spice cake soon
I am thankful for... Jerry loving me. I know I am not an easy person to live with but he puts up with me, anyway.
I am creating... I'm planning on tieing the blanket this afternoon, after I get the rest of the camper cleaned up. Which I'm working on slowly.

It's Christmas day.

You see that old tree down cotton lane.
Those lights keep shining it's always the same (it's always the same.)
We hear the church bells ring out to say
Oh Merry Christmas.
It's Christmas day.
Oh Merry Christmas,
It's Christmas day.

See the lights and hang the stockings.
Decorate with green and red.
Made the cookies for old santa,
Made a runway for his sled.
Singing carols on a sleigh ride.
Gather 'round the manger scene.
Open presents and read the letters.
And together we will sing

A Merry Christmas
Joy to the world (Joy to the world)
For every nation,
for every boy and girl.
Let's light a candle,
for peace we pray
oh merry christmas
It's christmas day. (It's christmas day.)
It's christmas day. (Oooooh.)

Let's light a candle,
for peace we pray
Oh Merry Christmas
It's Christmas Day,
Oh Merry Christmas,
It's Christmas Day

170cm fishing line
100 gold size 8/0 hex beads (also known as 2 cut beads)200 red size 8/0 seed beads
35 black size 8/0 seed beads1 ivory 6mm imitation pearl
Techniques: Beadweaving, right angle weave
Difficulty: Easy/Medium

1

What you do
Step 1: Ball base: Start with 5 beads, crossover on the last one (bead 5)

Add beads 6, 7, 8 and 9 onto the blue thread. Cross through bead 9 with the green thread.

Add beads 10, 11 and 12 onto the green thread. Cross through bead 12 with the blue thread.

Add beads 13, 14 and 15 onto the blue thread. Cross through bead 15 with the green thread.

Add beads 16, 17 and 18 onto the green thread. Cross through bead 18 with the blue thread.

1

Pass the green thread through beads 1 and 6.

Add beads 19 and 20 on the blue thread. Cross the green thread through bead 20.

Pass the blue thread through bead 7.

Add beads 21, 22 and 23 on the green thread. Cross the blue thread through bead 23

Pass the green thread through beads 8 and 10.

Add beads 24 and 25 to the blue thread. Cross the green thread through bead 25.

Pass the blue thread through beads 11 and 13.

Add beads 26 and 27 on the green thread. Cross the blue thread through bead 27

Pass the green thread through beads 14 and 16.

Add beads 28 and 29 to the blue thread. Cross the green thread through bead 29.

Pass the blue thread through beads 17, 19 and 21.

Add bead 30, and cross over.

Take the blue thread and pass through beads 28 and 26.

Take the green thread and pass through beads 22 and 24.

Tie off, but leave the thread. The base is done. It should look like a ball with lots of holes. Now you will add the petals.

2

Step 2: This diagram shows where the petals need to be added, basically there will be 3 rows on the beaded base. The first and last rows will have 5 beads, the middle row will have 10 beads.

Step 3: For the first row of petals, just pass ONE thread through the bead next to it. You will be working with this thread only for now. And you will be working on this circle of 5 beads, which will be the outer row of petals, and is highlighted in yellow.

3

Thread on 20 gold hex beads, and then pass the thread back through the bead on the base where you started, to create a loop of beads. (The thread path for the first row of petals is shown in the diagram). Pass the thread into the next bead in the circle, add 20 gold hex beads, and loop it back through again. Continue this all the way around the circle of 5 beads on the base.

At this stage I like to add a brooch back, if I%u2019m using one, then tie off the thread.

Now pick up the other thread and pass the it through to a bead in the next row. This second row is highlighted in pink, and will have 10 beads in it. Note: this row of beads doesn%u2019t sit perfectly straight, but has a slight zigzag pattern to it.

This time add loops of red size 8/0 beads, I used 20 because the seed beads are smaller than the hex beads, but play it by ear these loops should be a little smaller than the loops in the last row.

Make this row like before, passing through a bead, adding the beads for the petals, and passing back through that bead, then pass into the next bead. Continue all the way around forming 10 overlapping petals.

4

Now you%u2019ll be up to the last row, which will have only 5 beads in it again. This row is highlighted in green. This time add only 7 black seed beads to each of the five beads on the base.

Step 4: To make the flower centre, bring the thread from the bottom of the work up through the centre of the base, add the pearl bead, and cross the other thread through the pearl. Pass each thread through a bead near it, as in the diagram. Weave the threads through some beads until the threads meet. Tie off, thread through a few beads and cut. Your beaded flower is now finished!

VARIATIONS: You can use seed beads or any other beads in any of the rows, but each inner row just needs to be a little smaller than the outer ones. You can also leave out the centre pearl, to give a different look to your flower.

Magic Mint Chocolate Bark
1 2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Dark Chocolate & Mint Morsels

1/3 cup coarsely chopped oven roasted or toasted almonds

Directions:

PREHEAT oven to 325° F. Line small baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.

POUR morsels onto prepared baking sheet. Arrange morsels so they are touching each other in a single layer (roughly an 11 x 9-inch rectangle).

BAKE for 1 to 3 minutes or until morsels are shiny. Morsels will retain their shape. Remove from oven to wire rack. With tip of butter knife or wooden pick, immediately swirl morsels to create a swirled pattern.

SPRINKLE with nuts. Hold baking sheet 3 inches above counter and drop to settle nuts into melted morsels. Refrigerate for 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.

VARIATION: Substitute broken pretzel pieces or another nut of choice for the almonds.

This Magic Mint Chocolate Bark recipe is a fun and refreshing way to enjoy the decadent duo of mint and chocolate. Swirling designs add artistic flair to this unforgettable treat.

Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols being sung by a choir
And folks dressed up like Eskimos

Ev'rybody knows a turkey and some mistletoe
Help to make the season bright
Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow
Will find it hard to sleep tonight

They know that Santa's on his way
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh
And ev'ry mother's child is gonna spy
To see if reindeer really know how to fly

And so I'm offering this simple phrase
To kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times, many ways,
"Merry Christmas to you."

Pine Cone Angel

Materials needed:

1. A pine cone

2. A large bead

3. Ribbon (wide one)

4. Marker pens

5. Little dolls hair/ Spanish moss

6. A gold ring/ grape vine wreah

7. Glue

8. Scissors

9. Little spray paint.

Making something adorable from naturally occurring product which would otherwise go to the bin is indeed fun and noble. This pine cone angle is an example of how a small number of things which otherwise lie around the house could be put to good use. This angel is different and has given the boring pine cone a whole new perspective.

Step 1: clean the pine cone; wipe it clean of all of dust and impurities. Spray on some glitter paint in order to give it a shiny appearance. You could also patiently apply some glitter to the end of each projection to make it look lovelier.

Step 2: take the big bead and apply glue to one side. Also apply glue to the end of the pine cone (broad base) and attach it firmly. Let the glue dry completely.

Step 3: take the ribbon, around one inch of it and attach it close to the base such that it looks like wings. Just pinch the middle while pasting it. Let the beautiful wings dry.

Step 4: now it is time to attach the hair. If you want to attach cute dolls hair you could do it or you could go for some simple Spanish moss. You can use your imagination and suit it to your taste.

Step 5: once the hair is dried it is time for the halo. You could use an old golden ring or make one from streamers. You can also use the grape vine wreath in order to make the halo for our angel.

Step 6: after all the sticking is dry it is time to add the final touches. With the marker draw the eyes nose and mouth for the angel.

Step 7: lastly it is time to tie a colorful bow around the neck with the colorful ribbons. This will also act as a tag and help us hang the angel.

Thus this angel is ready. It could be used to decorate the crib, Christmas wreath, or the tree. It could even be used with other decorations in order to hang along the room. The angle has many uses and could be modified a lot more according to individual tastes. The pine cone could be decorated with beads or sequences. The halo and the hair could be made more interesting. There could be use of double strips of ribbon making the wings look bolder. So let us create beautiful angels this Christmas at home
